Harris Teeter has taken one of the more visible hits inside Kroger’s closure wave. Reports have counted six Harris Teeter closures, including stores in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina, as Kroger works through its plan to shut underperforming locations by the end of 2026.

For a regional chain with a loyal customer base, the closures can feel bigger than the number suggests. Harris Teeter has operated as a wholly owned Kroger subsidiary since 2014, and current third-party estimates place its standalone annual revenue around $2.3 billion.
