#17: Walking in Dark Hallways at Night
Getting up at night is common, whether it is for the bathroom, water, or checking a noise. But dark hallways can make furniture, rugs, pets, cords, and steps harder to see. When someone is sleepy, balance and reaction time may be worse, which makes a simple walk riskier.

Small lighting changes can help a lot. Use night-lights in hallways, bathrooms, and bedrooms, and keep a lamp within reach of the bed. Clear the path before sleeping, especially near doorways. Nighttime movement should feel calm and familiar, not like navigating an obstacle course in the dark.
